Ring of Peaks
The Valdeón Valley, together with the nearby municipality of Oseja de Sajambre, constitutes the main access points to the Anillo de Picos, one of the most spectacular high-mountain hiking routes in the Cantabrian Mountains. Both valleys, of great scenic value and strong mountaineering tradition, are privileged natural gateways into this major circular trekking route in high mountain terrain.
From the Valdeón Valley begins the ascent to the Collado Jermoso refuge via the Rienda de Asotín, a historic path carved into the rock in some sections. Its name refers to the way local mountain dwellers used to lead pack animals by their reins through this narrow passage, now an iconic high-mountain hiking route.
The Asotín gorge offers a demanding route, ideal for mountain lovers and technical hiking enthusiasts, with high-altitude landscapes and stunning views of the central massif.
Reaching Collado Jermoso means arriving at one of the most spectacular natural viewpoints of the Anillo de Picos, a benchmark for mountain tourism in Spain.
Discover this high-mountain route, plan your adventure, and experience the Anillo de Picos from the Valdeón Valley and the surroundings of Oseja de Sajambre.
